This course builds practical reading, viewing, and language skills that support effective communication in academic, workplace, and everyday contexts. Learners work with a variety of text types and develop the ability to identify main ideas, supporting information, purpose, audience, tone, and point of view. Course content strengthens critical reading skills through the analysis of explicit and implicit meaning, argument structure, and socio-cultural context in texts. Learners also develop practical strategies to improve comprehension and efficiency, including skimming, scanning, questioning, predicting, summarising, and paraphrasing. Information recording techniques such as note-taking, outlining, timelines, charts, mind maps, and annotations support structured thinking and clear organisation of ideas. Language study focuses on how word choice, sentence structure, syntax, and tone influence meaning and shape interpretation.
